Last year saw a step-up in what Sonic Cinema does when I covered the 2019 Atlanta Film Festival<\/a>. It was a fantastic experience, my first as a member of the press, and it’s one I hope to do again when that festival begins at the end of April. As the year went on, though, I thought about a few other film festivals I would love to cover, in addition to the Atlanta Film Festival. Sundance is one, and it’d be great to finally go to Austin for either SXSW in March, or Fantastic Fest in the Fall. Maybe one year. Thankfully, Georgia has some possibilities beyond Atlanta that I can take a look at.<\/p>\n

Last year, around the time I did my “Class of 1999” series episode on “The Green Mile” with filmmaker Nickolas Duarte<\/a>, he mentioned that he actually had a short playing at the Women in Horror Film Festival<\/a>, which takes place just North of Atlanta in Marietta, Georgia. I checked the festival site out, and since it’s right down the road from me, I thought it would be an interesting one to check out, and I’m pleased to announce that I will be covering the 2020 Women in Horror Film Festival as a member of the press. You can expect a similar form of coverage for the three-day genre festival as my Atlanta Film Festival coverage, with some Quick Take videos, a podcast, as well as reviews of some of the films. And I already have at least one interview possibility I’ll be lining up with another filmmaker I’ve reviewed on the site previously, Robbie Barnes (who directed the short, “Beyond Repair”<\/i><\/a>), and maybe a collaborator of Nickolas’s on his short, “Old Man Forever”<\/i>, which will play during one of the short film blocks. I am already working on my schedule for that week, and I cannot wait to share my thoughts on some of these films with you.<\/p>\n
