Here are the nominees, what won, and my thoughts as a voting member.<\/p>\n<p><u><b>2022 Georgia Film Critics Association Awards<\/b><\/u><\/p>\n<p><u>Best Picture<\/u><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/after-yang\/\"><i>&#8220;After Yang&#8221;<\/i><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/the-banshees-of-inisherin\/\"><i>&#8220;The Banshees of Inisherin&#8221;<\/i><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/decision-to-leave\/\"><i>&#8220;Decision to Leave&#8221;<\/i><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/everything-everywhere-all-at-once\/\"><i>&#8220;Everything Everywhere All at Once&#8221;<\/i><\/a>&#8211; <b>Winner<\/b><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/the-fabelmans\/\"><i>&#8220;The Fabelmans&#8221;<\/i><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/glass-onion-a-knives-out-mystery\/\"><i>&#8220;Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery&#8221;<\/i><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/nope\/\"><i>&#8220;Nope&#8221;<\/i><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/rrr\/\"><i>&#8220;RRR&#8221;<\/i><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/tar\/\"><i>&#8220;T\u00e1r&#8221;<\/i><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/top-gun-maverick\/\"><i>&#8220;Top Gun: Maverick&#8221;<\/i><\/a>&#8211; Runner-Up<\/p>\n<p>Thoughts: I may not love all of the choices as much as I do the best films, but this is a fantastic group of films that is representative of this year&#8217;s excellence in cinema. For the first time, we did Runners-Up for each category, and to say the winner, and runner-up, exemplify this year in film is an understatement.<\/p>\n<p><u>Best Director<\/u><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Decision to Leave&#8221;<\/i>, Park Chan-Wook<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Everything Everywhere All at Once&#8221;<\/i>, Daniels (Dan Kwan, Daniel Scheinert)- <b>Winner<\/b><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;The Fabelmans&#8221;<\/i>, Steven Spielberg- Runner-Up<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Nope&#8221;<\/i>, Jordan Peele<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;T\u00e1r&#8221;<\/i>, Todd Field<\/p>\n<p>Thoughts: I&#8217;ll be honest, I was maybe expecting &#8220;Decision to Leave&#8221; to get more &#8220;Runner-Up&#8221; consideration than it did, but I can&#8217;t be mad at either the winners or the runner-up here- they&#8217;re my choices, in that order.<\/p>\n<p><u>Best Actor<\/u><br \/>\nAustin Butler (<i>&#8220;Elvis&#8221;<\/i>)<br \/>\nColin Farrell (<i>&#8220;The Banshees of Inisherin&#8221;<\/i>)- <b>Winner<\/b><br \/>\nBrendan Fraser (<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/the-whale\/\"><i>&#8220;The Whale&#8221;<\/i><\/a>)- Runner-Up<br \/>\nPark Hae-il (<i>&#8220;Decision to Leave&#8221;<\/i>)<br \/>\nPaul Mescal (<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/aftersun\/\"><i>&#8220;Aftersun&#8221;<\/i><\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Thoughts: They are my Top 2, as well. We done good.<\/p>\n<p><u>Best Actress<\/u><br \/>\nCate Blanchett (<i>&#8220;T\u00e1r&#8221;<\/i>)- Runner-Up<br \/>\nDanielle Deadwyler (<i>&#8220;Till&#8221;<\/i>)<br \/>\nTang Wei (<i>&#8220;Decision to Leave&#8221;<\/i>)<br \/>\nMichelle Williams (<i>&#8220;The Fabelmans&#8221;<\/i>)<br \/>\nMichelle Yeoh (<i>&#8220;Everything Everywhere All at Once&#8221;<\/i>)- <b>Winner<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Thoughts: We really loved &#8220;Everything Everywhere All at Once,&#8221; in case you couldn&#8217;t tell. A great group of five women.<\/p>\n<p><u>Best Supporting Actor<\/u><br \/>\nBrendan Gleeson (<i>&#8220;The Banshees of Inisherin&#8221;<\/i>)- Runner-Up<br \/>\nBrian Tyree Henry (<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/causeway\/\"><i>&#8220;Causeway&#8221;<\/i><\/a>)<br \/>\nJudd Hirsch (<i>&#8220;The Fabelmans&#8221;<\/i>)<br \/>\nBarry Keoghan (<i>&#8220;The Banshees of Inisherin&#8221;<\/i>)<br \/>\nKe Huy Quan (<i>&#8220;Everything Everywhere All at Once&#8221;<\/i>)- <b>Winner<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Thoughts: More love for Ke Huy Quan, whom- as I&#8217;ve said- deserves literally everything he has coming to him.<\/p>\n<p><u>Best Supporting Actress<\/u><br \/>\nAngela Bassett (<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/black-panther-wakanda-forever\/\"><i>&#8220;Black Panther: Wakanda Forever&#8221;<\/i><\/a>)<br \/>\nKerry Condon (<i>&#8220;The Banshees of Inisherin&#8221;<\/i>)<br \/>\nJamie Lee Curtis (<i>&#8220;Everything Everywhere All at Once&#8221;<\/i>)<br \/>\nStephanie Hsu (<i>&#8220;Everything Everywhere All at Once&#8221;<\/i>)- <b>Winner<\/b><br \/>\nJanelle Mon\u00e1e (<i>&#8220;Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery&#8221;<\/i>)- Runner-Up<br \/>\nKeke Palmer (<i>&#8220;Nope&#8221;<\/i>)<\/p>\n<p>Thoughts: Hsu has, inexplicably, not gotten enough traction this award season. I do wish we&#8217;d had someone from &#8220;She Said&#8221; or &#8220;Women Talking&#8221; in here, even though I love all of these choices.<\/p>\n<p><u>Best Original Screenplay<\/u><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;The Banshees of Inisherin&#8221;<\/i> (Martin McDonagh)- Runner-Up<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Everything Everywhere All at Once&#8221;<\/i> (Daniels (Dan Kwan, Daniel Scheinert))- <b>Winner<\/b><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;The Fabelmans&#8221;<\/i> (Steven Spielberg, Tony Kushner)<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Nope&#8221;<\/i> (Jordan Peele)<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;T\u00e1r&#8221;<\/i> (Todd Field)<\/p>\n<p>Thoughts: This is a category of equals here, with &#8220;Everything&#8221; and &#8220;Banshees&#8221; winning out.<\/p>\n<p><u>Best Adapted Screenplay<\/u><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;After Yang\u201d<\/i> (Kogonada)<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery&#8221;<\/i> (Rian Johnson)- <b>Winner<\/b><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/pinnochio\/\"><i>&#8220;Guillermo del Toro&#8217;s Pinocchio&#8221;<\/i><\/a> (Guillermo del Toro, Matthew Robbins, Gris Grimly, Patrick McHale)- Runner-Up<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/she-said\/\"><i>&#8220;She Said&#8221;<\/i><\/a> (Rebecca Lenkiewicz)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/women-talking\/\"><i>&#8220;Women Talking&#8221;<\/i><\/a> (Sarah Polley)<\/p>\n<p>Thoughts: I enjoyed &#8220;Glass Onion,&#8221; but it was my least favorite of these five. I&#8217;m glad &#8220;She Said,&#8221; &#8220;Women Talking&#8221; and &#8220;After Yang&#8221; all got nods here, though.<\/p>\n<p><u>Best Cinematography<\/u><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/bardo-false-chronicle-of-a-handful-of-truths\/\"><i>&#8220;Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths&#8221;<\/i><\/a> (Darius Khondji)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/the-batman\/\"><i>&#8220;The Batman&#8221;<\/i><\/a> (Greig Fraser)- Runner-Up<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;The Fabelmans&#8221;<\/i> (Janusz Kaminski)<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Nope&#8221;<\/i> (Hoyte Van Hoytema)<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Top Gun: Maverick&#8221;<\/i> (Claudio Miranda)- <b>Winner<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Thoughts:  All fantastic choices, even if &#8220;Top Gun&#8221; is my least favorite of the five.<\/p>\n<p><u>Best Production Design<\/u><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Avatar&#8221; The Way of Water\u201d<\/i> (Dylan Cole, Ben Procter, Vanessa Cole)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/babylon-2\/\"><i>&#8220;Babylon&#8221;<\/i><\/a> (Florencia Martin, Anthony Carlino)- <b>Winner<\/b><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Black Panther: Wakanda Forever&#8221;<\/i> (Hannah Beachler, Lisa K. Sessions)<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Elvis&#8221;<\/i> (Catherine Martin, Karen Murphy, Beverley Dunn)<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Everything Everywhere All at Once&#8221;<\/i> (Jason Kisvarday, Kelsi Ephraim)- Runner-Up<\/p>\n<p>Thoughts: I&#8217;m fine with &#8220;Babylon&#8221; winning this one- it&#8217;s beautifully-crafted in this respect.<\/p>\n<p><u>Best Original Score<\/u><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Babylon&#8221;<\/i> (Justin Hurwitz)- Runner-Up<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;The Batman&#8221;<\/i> (Michael Giacchino)- <b>Winner<\/b><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Black Panther: Wakanda Forever&#8221;<\/i> (Ludwig G\u00f6ransson)<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;The Fabelmans&#8221;<\/i> (John Williams)<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Guillermo del Toro&#8217;s Pinocchio&#8221;<\/i> (Alexandre Desplat)<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Nope&#8221;<\/i> (Michael Abels)<\/p>\n<p>Thoughts: It may not have been long-listed by the Academy, but we loved Giacchino&#8217;s score enough to give it the win over &#8220;Babylon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><u>Best Original Song<\/u><br \/>\n&#8220;Carolina&#8221; &#8211; Taylor Swift (<i>&#8220;Where the Crawdads Sing&#8221;<\/i>)<br \/>\n&#8220;Ciao Papa&#8221; &#8211; Alexandre Desplat, Roeban Katz, Guillermo del Toro (<i>&#8220;Guillermo del Toro&#8217;s Pinocchio&#8221;<\/i>)<br \/>\n&#8220;Hold My Hand&#8221; &#8211; Lady Gaga, BloodPop, Benjamin Rice (<i>&#8220;Top Gun: Maverick&#8221;<\/i>)- <b>Winner<\/b><br \/>\n&#8220;Lift Me Up&#8221; &#8211; Tems, Rihanna, Ludwig G\u00f6ransson, Ryan Coogler (<i>&#8220;Black Panther: Wakanda Forever&#8221;<\/i>)<br \/>\n&#8220;Naatu Naatu&#8221; &#8211; M.M. Keeravani, Kaala Bhairava, Rahul Sipligunj (<i>&#8220;RRR&#8221;<\/i>)- Runner-Up<\/p>\n<p>Thoughts: This had to have been a close vote. I can&#8217;t be that mad about the choice, though, because I do love &#8220;Hold My Hand.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><u>Best Ensemble<\/u><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;The Banshees of Inisherin\u201d<\/i><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Everything Everywhere All at Once&#8221;<\/i>&#8211; Runner-Up<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;The Fabelmans&#8221;<\/i><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery<\/i>&#8211; <b>Winner<\/b><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Women Talking&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Thoughts: I get why &#8220;Glass Onion&#8221; won, but &#8220;Women Talking&#8221; should have been the choice.<\/p>\n<p><u>Best Foreign Language Film<\/u><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;All Quiet on the Western Front&#8221;<\/i><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Argentina 1985&#8221;<\/i><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Close&#8221;<\/i><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Decision to Leave&#8221;<\/i>&#8211; Runner-Up<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;RRR&#8221;<\/i>&#8211; <b>Winner<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Thoughts: The winner and runner-up both make sense. I would imagine this was a tight vote.<\/p>\n<p><u>Best Animated Film<\/u><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/apollo-10-1-2-a-space-age-childhood\/\"><i>&#8220;Apollo 10 1\/2: A Space Age Childhood&#8221;<\/i><\/a><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Guillermo del Toro&#8217;s Pinocchio&#8221;<\/i>&#8211; <b>Winner<\/b><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/marcel-the-shell-with-shoes-on\/\"><i>&#8220;Marcel the Shell with Shoes On&#8221;<\/i><\/a>&#8211; Runner-Up<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Puss in Boots: The Last Wish&#8221;<\/i><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/turning-red\/\"><i>&#8220;Turning Red&#8221;<\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Thoughts: The two best ones at the top. This makes sense in every way.<\/p>\n<p><u>Best Documentary Film<\/u><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;All That Breathes&#8221;<\/i><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;All the Beauty and the Bloodshed&#8221;<\/i><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Descendant&#8221;<\/i>&#8211; Runner-Up<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/fire-of-love\/\"><i>&#8220;Fire of Love&#8221;<\/i><\/a>&#8211; <b>Winner<\/b><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/good-night-oppy\/\"><i>&#8220;Good Night Oppy&#8221;<\/i><\/a><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Navalny&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Thoughts: I have some catching up to do here, but it&#8217;s hard not to love &#8220;Fire of Love.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><u>Breakthrough Award<\/u><br \/>\nDanielle Deadwyler- <b>Winner<\/b><br \/>\nStephanie Hsu- <b>Winner<\/b><br \/>\nTenoch Huerta<br \/>\nGabriel LaBelle- Runner-Up<br \/>\nAmber Midthunder<\/p>\n<p>Thoughts: I&#8217;m just glad LaBelle and Midthunder were nominated.<\/p>\n<p><u>Oglethorpe Award for Excellence in Georgia Cinema<\/u><br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Bad Dream&#8221;<\/i> (short; Camilo Diaz Caro, Colby Hollman)<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Black Panther: Wakanda Forever&#8221;<\/i> (Ryan Coogler, Joe Robert Cole)<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/devotion\/\"><i>&#8220;Devotion&#8221;<\/i><\/a> (J.D. Dillard, Jake Crane, Jonathan Stewart)<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Emergency&#8221;<\/i> (Carey Williams, K.D. D\u00e1vila)<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Glitter Ain&#8217;t Gold&#8221;<\/i> (short; Christian Nolan Jones)<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul.&#8221;<\/i> (Adamma Ebo)<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;I Want You Back&#8221;<\/i> (Jason Isaac Aptaker, Elizabeth Berger)<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;The Menu&#8221;<\/i> (Mark Mylod, Seth Reiss, Will Tracy)- Runner-Up<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sonic-cinema.com\/movie\/refuge\/\"><i>&#8220;Refuge&#8221;<\/i><\/a> (Erin Levin Bernhardt, Din Blankenship)<br \/>\n<i>&#8220;Till&#8221;<\/i> (Chinonye Chukwu, Michael Reilly, Keith Beauchamp)- <b>Winner<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Thoughts: I&#8217;m overdue watching &#8220;The Menu,&#8221; but honestly, as much as I love &#8220;Wakanda Forever,&#8221; I&#8217;m glad a movie like &#8220;Till&#8221; took the win here.
