Red plays an important role in the visual impact of “You Only Loved Me Twice,” an 8-minute thriller about infidelity and murder by writer/director Ryan Pickett. In those eight minutes, we see a complete story, all told without words: a woman (Michelle Evans) preparing a meal for her husband (Matt Bolton); the same woman setting up what she will need to kill her husband, who has been cheating on her; the husband coming home, and then…well, I won’t give away much after that. Pickett uses a visual and musical style that brings to mind David Lynch, but while presenting a story that feels more straightforward than anything Lynch has done. It’s riveting stuff, especially when we’re watching the husband and wife do one last tango together. I won’t tell you how it ends, but needless to say, someone is going to be seeing red by the time the credits roll.
