I first came across this after it was posted by Collider Digital last year, but it didn’t have the very beginning. The premise was simple- translate the words of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” into a narrative film. If you’ve heard the song (and if you haven’t, get on that because it’s worth your time), you know there’s a story there to be told. Kudos to Collider for taking it seriously, and making it work. It’s basically the type of sprawling epic short that Guns N’ Roses did with some of their videos in the 1990s, only they literally make the lyrics the script for the short film. It’s a clever hook, as a young man, a criminal, kills a man, and goes to his mom’s apartment before a firefight with the police. This could have been done deliberately tongue-in-cheek, and it’s hard not to find some of the translations funny, but they make it work as a serious action short film, as well. It’s a fun experiment that is worth checking out.
