Movie review score
A

We first meet our protagonist when he’s standing in a field. A piece of paper falls into his hands, telling him that “it’s right in front of you. This is one of those moments. You’ll thank me later.” We then see him at a crosswalk. He is daydreaming, and as the film rewinds a bit, we see he crossed paths with a young woman. Could that be what’s “right in front of him?”

“World Spins Madly On” is a short and sweet six minutes about how what seems like a random moment can become a lynchpin for the rest of our life. Writer-director Jeremy Jed Hammel taps into that feeling every “hopeless romantic” has had at one point or another that a single meeting can lead to the start of a new path for the rest of your life. (As a hopeless romantic myself, I know the feeling well.) The way he does it is visually simple, but inspired, and the way music puts the emotional cap on the film at the end is just the cherry on top of this lovely little movie about seeing the signs, and following them to your destination.
