He’s not even done with one project and he’s starting a new one. Story of my creative life.
I’ve been working on three different albums for years now. I have several pieces in various forms of completion.
And then, there’s “Unwinnable Hand,” which crossed its’ five-year anniversary last September, still without a completed print.
Well, there are a lot of reasons that one isn’t complete, but over the past few months, I’ve been working on my next film project.
What is it about? Well, let’s just say it’s the ramblings of a singular filmmaking talent whose projects are, well, let’s just say you haven’t seen anything like them.
“Baron Wasteland,” subtitled “Littered With Failure- The Career of Baron Brian von Skutle,” is the brainchild of myself, Jeffrey Bützer, and Mathew Timms. Over our years of working together at the movie theatre, we’ve had some pretty interesting ideas we’ve contemplated, about film projects, and music projects, and about the direction of Hollywood in the past few years. “Baron Wasteland” is my way of putting these ideas into a creative outlet, in the form of a short film series (to be shown online) where we get into the Baron’s mind, and see what makes his artist clock tick.
It can be a pretty dark sight.
Today, myself, Mathew and Ronnie Haynes began filming today. In the grand scheme of things, we got a lot done. With the exception of some inserts, quick cuts, and an interview with The Baron’s mother (played by my real-life mom Vicki Skutle), the vast majority of Chapters 1 & 2 of the series are filmed. We also got some pretty rich behind-the-scenes and outtakes that should make for entertaining viewing for when the series starts hitting the ‘Net (look for it later in 2010). We got a lot of snapshots of me in costume as The Baron, as well as the setup we did for the film. You can see them on my Facebook Fan Page here. Some of them are pretty entertaining, more so if you know what’s coming in the story.
My thanks to both Mat and Ronnie for their help today, and I look forward to working with them in future filming days. It was great being able to riff and take some, shall we say, liberties with the script that helped make it come to life a little more. I can’t wait to show it to you guys. Hopefully we’ll have more to share soon.
By the way, the subtitle on this blog is in reference to the tagline for the series. Pretty good, eh?
