Hello one and all. I hope that 2010 has been going well for you in the first few months of the year, and as always, you may feel free to request off of this list at anytime, and I will honor your request.
This year has seen a rejuvenation in my creative output. Yes, I’ve said that before, but here me out.
On the music front, I’m a few months (and a few recording sessions) away from the release of my long-in-development fourth album, “Beyond the Infinite: A Musical Odyssey”. True, the production hasn’t gone quite as I hoped- I would have hoped for some more live performers. (Another time.) But the same happened on my third album, “Sonic Visions of a New Old West”, and that ended up better than expected.
As I work my way towards completion of “Beyond the Infinite,” I’m pleased to allow you to listen to my three latest recorded pieces for the album. The first is “Dawn of Man (Introduction)”, a piece for Flute, Cello & Marimba I wrote back in 2000, and have finally recorded via MIDI (the long version, also written at the same time, is being recorded similarly). It can currently be heard at my Facebook Fan page. I’m also pleased to bring you “Overture” and “The Planets Align”, two chamber music pieces that will kick the album off evocatively and- hopefully- memorably. If they sound somewhat familiar, it’s because the music was also performed in electronic arrangements for the pieces “Entr’acte” and “A Place Among the Stars”. You can hear the new recordings by simply clicking on the titles above.
2010 has also seen the beginning of a new film project. As “Unwinnable Hand: A Thriller in Two Movements” continues to be in a holding pattern while one of my actors is off living it up and working his ass off in San Francisco, production began on a series of short films entitled “Baron Wasteland: Littered With Failure- The Career of Baron Brian von Skutle”. I’ll let you deduce the series’ subject from the title, or you can just read the blogs at Sonic Cinema, the third one of which just got posted.
I’ll let that blog provide the context of my newest piece (my first written this year), entitled “Requiem for a Ringtail”, the original score to one of the series’ film-within-a-film. Performed on the fly, with no real planning per se, the piece is reflective of the type of music I think I excel at creating- evocative, unlikely, and surprisingly emotive. But I’ll let you decide for yourself- you can hear the piece by clicking on the title above.
Well, that’s all for now. This is the year I hope to finally seize the moment. I’m expecting to submit two short films for Dragon*Con’s Short Film Festival this year, and with a new album out, I’ll have a lot to promote musically, and I have just the way to do it. But that’s a story for another time. Til then…
