The Tattooist (Short)

Michael Wong’s “The Tattooist” plays more like a dark comedy than straight horror, as we dive into the mind of a tattoo artist (played by Wang Yanhu) as he is making his latest creation. That Wong is able to do this in 80 seconds, while we feel like we were told a complete story, is his strongest talent as a storyteller in this film. Add to that the music, which has a playful swing that latest contrasts to existential dread, and it makes for a fun, satisfying trip. It’s not easy to tell a full story in so brief a time frame; this almost makes it look easy.
