It’s not often when we do direct crossovers with another podcast, but in this case, it really felt necessary to do. When Robert Yaniz Jr. and I began discussing the idea of talking about the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer’s “Cloud Atlas”, a big part of it was, whose podcast does this make sense to be on. We eventually decided that the answer was both. By this point, hopefully you’ve heard our discussion of the film over at Close Watch, which I’ll link to below. Here, we will discuss the film’s score by Tykwer, Johnny Klimek and Reinhold Heil, the ways the film uses the “Cloud Atlas Sextet” as diagetic music in addition to the film’s underscore, and why such an approach works beautifully with the film’s themes and ideas. I hope you enjoy!
**The end music is my original composition, “Interludes for Winds, Timpani and Marimba.”
