One Hour Fantasy Girl
“One Hour Fantasy Girl” works in very much the same way as Steven Soderbergh’s “The Girlfriend Experience” with porn star Sasha Grey. Sex isn’t really the focus for either of the women at the center of these films. What is the focus for Grey’s high-class escort and Becky (the young woman in this film) is control over their life. For Becky, that means a job making others fantasies come true; she’s a dominatrix now, but she really wants to go into real estate, while her business partner (Paul D. Nguyen) wants a record deal. One day, a client comes into her life-a young man from Montana named Bobby (Joe Luckay)-that could change everything.
Writer-director Edgar Michael Bravo has some interesting tricks up his sleeve with this film. What starts out as a potential “love story” and of finding your way in the world (and out of the world you live in) turns darker when a long-time client gets violent with Becky (played by Kelly-Ann Tursi with just the right amount of strength and ambivalence). Unfortunately, things take a turn for the worst for Becky, and the movie suffers from a somewhat muted pacing for the rest of the film. Still, Becky is a compelling character to follow; we want to see her succeed, and break out of the life she’s chosen and into the one she wants. Not because we may disapprove, but because the more we see of her, the more we feel like she has more to offer.
