I’m still kind of shaky on what (if anything) James Ricardo, the writer and director of this short, was trying to say about suburbia and being the new guy in town, and I’ll admit that I’m getting to the irony of using the word “shaky” to describe anything about this film late in the game. That being said, if all he want to do was make a short and sweet movie that was oddly entertaining, mission accomplished. The story of the titular “guy” (J.C. Macek III), who moves to a town for work, and finds that they have an odd way of greeting one another, Ricardo’s second short I’ve seen (after the equally fun, and kind of loopy, “Guillotine Guys”) is short on story, but hilarious in its off-kilter look at what it’s like to be the outsider. It’s not cruel, however, and that’s a key part of what makes this movie fun. Yeah, the main character is judging these people, but we never do; we’re just…curious, that’s all, especially when the main character goes to a new town, only to discover…well, you should really just watch it for yourself. I guarantee 50% of you would approve.
