Last Call (Short)
In Ryan Moody’s short film, “Last Call,” two friends go on a final “ride” together, enjoying each other’s company for one, last time before one of them dies. Chuck (Steve Larkin) is seen coming out of the doctor’s office and his friend, Bruce (Jack Kehler), is picking him up. Chuck is on portable oxygen, so we can immediately tell he’s not doing well, although the demeanor he takes with Bruce speaks volumes, as well. After Bruce takes him to get smokes, it comes out that his doctor’s have given Chuck two weeks left to live. Bruce is in disbelief, but even more so when Chuck considers doing something a lot of us would think unthinkable, even in that dire circumstance. That settles it- they are going to have at least one good time before Chuck goes, and hopefully, Bruce can make sure that is naturally. Moody’s film is all about the relationship between Chuck and Bruce, and Larkin and Kehler do a great job establishing that dynamic in an entertaining and believable way. They make this “Last Call” an enjoyable one while also not forgetting the serious nature of what the characters are experiencing.
