The First Date (Short)
“The First Date,” written and directed by Adam Weber, is a dark scene. I’m not sure how “funny” I found it, exactly, but it’s definitely a fun, macabre treat for people into this type of wicked humor. As a scene, however, Weber lands everything needed to make us squirm, and it’s entertaining to see how he lands it.
We are taken into a restaurant, where a man (Chad McMartin) is waiting for a woman (Cassandra Tragar), who is running late for their first date together. When the meal shows up, however, the man is still waiting, and she is running late, although she might be closer than he expects. I’d rather not go beyond that, but you might be able to figure it out from there. When the punchline of the film starts, it’s freaky how real it looks in how it’s staged, and that pulls the film into a conclusion we might be able to see coming, but is as effective as it can be. I’m curious how fans of horror would feel about this film, by the end.
