Gigli

“The Worst Movie Ever?” Hardly. “The Worst Movie of the Summer?” It’s not even that. What “Gigli” IS is a movie with an identity crisis- the equal parts of gangster flick, “Chasing Amy” (still Ben Affleck’s best film and performance), and “Rain Man” just don’t jell. Forget character development- “Gigli”- over-thought and under-written by writer/director Martin Breast (“Meet Joe Black,” “Beverly Hills Cop”)- just presents us w/ Affleck’s dumb mob enforcer and J. Lo’s smart lesbian, and just keeps them that way. It wouldn’t be a huge deal normally except the story’s such where change is required, and not received by the audience. If there’s one thing this movie has in the plus column, though, it’s that Jennifer Lopez hasn’t looked this hot since “Out of Sight.” If only this movie were as entertaining as that gem.
