He’s a Bleeder (Short)
Brothers Buddy (Philip Hersh) and Bucky (Joseff Stevenson) are strip club owners, although Bucky seems more confident in his job than Buddy does. Bucky went to business school, but he doesn’t seem to be able to handle awkward situations. The brothers bring in a server (Lucy, played by Jordan Layne Howard) who’s been harassed by a customer, and the pit boss (an old family friend named Charlie, played by Russ Kingston) who is supposed to be looking out for creeps, into their office. Having Bucky deal with this particular situation seems odd- he just doesn’t appear comfortable with confrontation. But he soldiers on, and Buddy lets him continue, even when he gets off track about the aquarium in town. Eventually, what needs to be done is done, and at that point, Buddy finally takes over, although he seems to have some discomfort there, despite his medical school training. “He’s a Bleeder” is the work of writer Desi Poteet and director Gil Ben-Harosh, and it’s an entertaining little short film, which trades on observational humor as these seemingly outmatched brothers feel in over their heads when it comes to dealing with uncomfortable situations and the darker parts of life. The characters are well-written and acted, the atmosphere is just right, and the tone is well modulated for this type of story. It’s a fun movie to watch, and I’d recommend doing so.
