No Man’s Land (Short)
In the short film, “No Man’s Land,” a son returns home from WWI with his right arm badly damaged from a German land mine. His father and he talk about possibilities, and what the future holds now that he is home, but we learn a secret about the son, and his relationship with his stepmother that will test loyalties, and love.
Daniel Hahn’s film is the work of a filmmaker brimming with confidence in his abilities to maneuver the emotions involved in his story, and to pull us into a world where privileges mean a lot in life, but loyalty means more. We are given all the information we need to understand this story, and these characters, and still find ourselves intrigued by the choices they make. This is a film with a beginning, a middle, and an end laid out, and fully realized, even if it only lasts for 15 minutes. The son steps into another minefield by coming home. Will he survive it? I’ll let the film tell you the answer to that one.
