Movie review score
A

Philip Vickery’s “Reina” starts out with a couple (Sergio Castillo and Kat Pena) out on a date that is not going well. The guy has been carrying on all night about Reina, and the girl cannot take it. She wants out of the date, and the guy understands, but does convince her to give him another chance. Maybe they should have found a different place to go, though.

Vickery’s comedic premise starts with Castillo’s character telling the same story twice. The second time, however, carries some context that not only makes Penn more sympathetic, but also makes it to where telling the story is a life-saving proposition for them. Comedy and tragedy are right next to one another in this film in a way that is delightful to watch unfold, and seeing how it all plays out in the end is hilarious.
