Sonic Cinema

I normally do not write actual reviews in this space, but this is the second such time I’ve been inspired to in a few months, and truthfully, I should have seen it coming. When I plan out my schedule for the 2025 Atlanta Film Festival- or any film festival- my in-person screenings have a lot to do with A) whether I’ll be able to attend in person at that time; […]

I will be honest- I knew I wanted to cover the Atlanta Film Festival again this year, but I wasn’t quite sure what that would look like. You see, with my job and its fluid schedule, 2024 was a bit trickier than I anticipated, but I made it work. There was another potential wrinkle in this year, as well; in early March, I found out that my mother was at […]

In this mini-episode of the podcast, I thought I’d talk briefly about my favorite genre of all-time- science fiction. My history with the genre, why my love has only deepened, and why it’s being covered so heavily this year on Sonic Cinema. I hope you enjoy! The end piece is “Weightless Waltz in F,” from my 2010 album, “Beyond the Infinite: A Musical Odyssey”. You can read my paper on […]

It is that time of year again- the Oscars. This episode features the things you’ve come to expect over the years- a category by category breakdown with awards watcher Amanda Spears, followed by my 10 Best Films of the year. I hope you enjoy! My retrospective on 2025 can be read here. Read Brian’s Thoughts on the 2025 Atlanta Film Critics Circle Winners here. Read Brian’s Thoughts on the 2025 […]

One of the fundamental challenges of this “Movie a Week” series continues to be that it’s, well, a movie a week. And because I’ve basically planned out the next year during the current one, that means film availability is of the utmost importance in order for this to work. That, and time. Life and work often intervene, and it means this series can get backed up. Most of the time […]

If I remember correctly, my 2015 list of “Movies a Week” began sometime in mid-January, due to 2014 being considerably late thanks to technical issues with my Blu-Ray player, an aggressive work schedule at the end of the year, as well as busy personal schedule. For most of this year, however, I’ve been relatively on top of the “A Week” part of this series, and that included a kitchen remodel […]

It’s been nearly a year since I last updated on Sonic Cinema on my musical exploits. Truth is, I’ve been pretty busy with a lot of balls juggling in the air, so I haven’t been able to update quite as regularly as I’d prefer. But here we are, almost done with the first third of 2015, and it’s definitely been a ride. Last year, most of the year saw my […]

I don’t know how people go to school full-time, and work full-time, without going insane. It’s been a crazy three months just doing one online class and working full-time. And then there’s that pesky task of having a life in between. I’m baffled. To recap: in my last blog about my musical endeavors, I mentioned how I had decided to go back to school and augment my education. And so, […]
